fresh stART tonight!
There is a HUGE benefit art show happening tonight in LA. Myself along with so many of my favorite artists have contributed work for a one night only auction to benefit a Para Los Niños. Para Los Niños is a nonprofit family service organization designed to bring children from some of Los Angeles' most challenging communities out of poverty and onto brighter, more successful futures. Check out the fresh stART site HERE for more info. Hope you all are having a bright sunny Saturday. So nice in Portland today!

Box of Regret
My friend Danielle Ye has a fancy new zine available through Nieves. Have a look!
She also just posted this beautiful film Terra Incognita on Vimeo! I think it may be her thesis from CalArts? Not sure.
Here's how she describes it:
"A homage to Len Lye and Jules Engel, Terra Incognita is a hand drawn animated abstraction in three parts."
I posted it here below but you should actually go watch it at the Vimeo site so you can see it bigger. I wish I could see it projected!

You Were In My Dream
Isobel you knock me out!
My friend Isobel Knowles has spent the past year making an interactive stop motion choose your own adventure animation starring you via camera. It is made by hand with paper cutouts. If you are in Melbourne you can see the full thing at Experimenta , but the rest of us will have to settle for going here and watching a small part of it. You can use your webcam to put YOUR face into the animation!

Orson Ali
Orson Ali signing prints for his fans
When I went to Australia for my show at The Narrows in 2007 I had the great fortune to visit an art opening by 10 year old Sonny Thomas who makes fashion and art under the fabulous name Orson Ali. My friend Anna surprised me by commissioning him to make me a painting! I just came across these old photos from his show... I wonder how he is doing now? I just found this little interview with him on a blog.
Here are some photos of him with his designs..

Family Portrait Quilt
I just came across these pictures. I was commissioned to make a family portrait painting in 2007 for my friend to give to her momma for Christmas. But THEN her momma took the painting I made to an amazing quilter in Virginia who turned it into a quilt! I absolutely LOVE this quilt!!!! I really wanted to go meet the quilter and apprentice with her so I could learn to turn paintings into quilts like her but it hasn't come to be so far..
Here is the painting I made:
Here they are together!
